Active Vs Passive Marketing For Med Spas

We’ve heard tons of Med Spa owners, saying “I spend all these hours, doing all the things to market my business, but nothing works!” But when we find out most of them are passive marketing versus active marketing, we start to wonder if they know the difference.

Just because you are going through all the motions on social media (take a picture of your clients, post to Instagram, post to Facebook, and done!) Just this alone is a failing effort that will never work to grow your business. And this is what we call passive marketing, simply taking pictures of your clients and posting them on social media.

So how do we turn passive marketing into active marketing?

We’re so glad you asked. Here are our top tips to start getting more active with your Med Spa

Post engaging captions on social media and then comment back

It’s easy to take a pretty picture. The hard part is coming up with something engaging to say after.

Think about the accounts on Instagram that you follow. You follow them because of the way their posts make you feel. It’s not just the visual: the posts take you through an experience.

Pick 5 to 10 Instagram accounts that you love the most, in any industry, and take a look at the way they write their captions. Make a note of what pulls you in and how they make you feel. Start incorporating those into your captions to get conversations going!

Hashtags

Do you use hashtags? The chances are high that you’ll say yes. #medspa #nurseinjector #microneedling, while these tags are highly popular, unfortunately, this is passive marketing. (Wait! What!?) When we use hashtags that are general the hope is a new prospective client is going to look up #nurseinjector, find our feed, happen to live in our town, fall in love, and tomorrow end up on our books.

However, this is like throwing the needle in the haystack. How often do you think people find that needle? The answer is very rarely.

Active marketing is searching for local hashtags that other businesses are using, i.e. #chicagomom #chicagolifestyle. Use those hashtags because they’re being used by the people in the area that you’re trying to get out in front of.

Tagging brands

If your tagging other brands or commenting on their posts to improve brand awareness, this is passive marketing. This may help more med spa owners follow you, but it won’t help you to get more clients.

Instead, ask your clients to leave testimonials on your page. This improves credibility and brand awareness. The more the number of genuine testimonials, the more visitors are attracted to your brand.

Flyers and Cards

Raise your hand if you have ever pinned a flyer to a board in another local business, or given out cards for them to display. Now raise your hand if you have ever looked at those flyers or taken a card? I bet you’re thinking yup, never have I gone into Starbucks and even glanced.

That’s not an effective strategy. All you’re going to do is waste money and time pinning cards everywhere and it’s not going to make you look professional.

A better strategy is having an active referral program. Reward your loyal and happy customers for referring your med spa to their loved ones. However, If you’re not talking about your referral program with every single client, they aren’t thinking about it. Unless you’re regularly saying, “I’m looking to build my business, let me remind you about my referral program,” your clients will not send people to you.

A True Social Media Strategy

Have a plan, decide what days you’re going to post, what your goals are for social media, and how you’re going to use the tools properly. Engage with your community and utilize local hashtags to find prospective clients. Remember you need to be active on social media for it to work for you, we can’t just post and leave.

If you are ready to level up and be booked out with your ideal clients, start refining your marketing techniques to what actively gets you in front of the prospective clientele.
