Are Long-Term Marketing Contracts the Smart Choice?

Marketing agencies are popping up faster than new skincare trends! And with so many options, we felt it was necessary to talk about something that we have been seeing a lot lately- long term contracts.

The other day we had an upsetting call with a new Med Spa owner. We were SHOCKED at what she shared with us. She was stuck in a long-term contract with a marketing agency who was doing some SEO and running Facebook ads for her. She had signed a year-long, $2700/mo contract and was just a couple of months in. We saw her ads. They were awful and she hadn't had any new clients in yet for that hefty price tag (and frankly, probably never would.) Our heart broke for this woman. She simply wanted to get some new clients in the door, but couldn't get out of her contract.

Here's the thing. Most med spa owners are not experts at marketing. That's why you look for someone else who is an expert in that field to help you, right? (Just like we don't do our own Microneedling treatments 😉) So, we want to make sure you know to be very careful about signing long-term contracts. You really won't know if an agency is any good until you start working with them. And if you sign away for a year, you could end up losing a LOT of money.

The Benefits of Month-to-Month Marketing Contracts

  1. Financial Flexibility: In the unpredictable world of business, numbers can ebb and flow, and unforeseen circumstances can arise. Month-to-month contracts provide you with the freedom and flexibility to cancel or pause your marketing efforts without being tied down by lengthy commitments.

  2. Consistent High Quality Work: Let’s be honest, long-term marketing agency contracts only benefit one party…the marketing agency. It allows them to be complacent, perhaps de-prioritize you with other higher paying or newer clients, etc. Quite the opposite is true when you work with a month-to-month agency. With month-to-month contracts, agencies must consistently deliver results and prioritize your business to retain your partnership. It's a win-win, ensuring you get the best service possible.

  3. Building Trust: When choosing between two equally competent agencies, consider who you trust more with your business's marketing. The agency that's willing to work with you on a month-to-month basis demonstrates their commitment to earning your trust and delivering the results you are looking for.

As a Med Spa owner, your focus should be on providing exceptional services to your clients, not worrying about being locked into unproductive contracts with marketing agencies. The story of our fellow spa owner serves as a powerful reminder that month-to-month contracts are the way to go. They provide financial flexibility, ensure agencies work hard for your business every month, and most importantly, build trust.

This is why we only do month-to-month contracts. We have no interest in keeping anyone as a client who isn't stark raving happy with the results. So, as you continue your journey in the Med Spa world, remember this valuable lesson: "No long-term marketing contracts!" 🙌🏼

Spread the word to your fellow spa owners, and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out. Your spa's success is worth it!
